Location

Objective
This university project explored how visual storytelling can be used to communicate social and ethical issues through photography. The aim was to create an emotive series that encourages viewers to reflect on the treatment of animals within the fashion industry.
Concept
The concept was inspired by research into the practice of live geese feather plucking. Rather than depicting the subject directly, the project translated the idea into a human context, inviting viewers to empathise with the experience. By portraying this through the human form, the imagery asks the audience to consider how it might feel to be placed in the same situation.
Execution
The project was produced through a studio photoshoot in collaboration with a makeup artist. Using controlled lighting and close-up compositions, the model was styled with delicate feathers placed along the eyelashes to symbolise the connection to geese and feather removal. The styling and lighting were carefully considered to evoke vulnerability and discomfort.
Outcome
The final images communicate a strong emotional narrative while demonstrating how photography, art direction, and styling can be used to translate complex ideas into impactful visual storytelling.
