Poh Poh

Project type

Graphic Design | Publication

Location

Sydney, Australia

Role

Editorial Design, Concept Development, Storytelling

Objective
Poh Poh is a recipe and food experience book created to honour my grandmother. “Poh Poh” means grandmother in Cantonese, and the project was inspired by the meals she lovingly cooked for my brother and me growing up. The goal of this project was to preserve these family recipes and memories, while celebrating the cultural traditions that shaped my upbringing.

Concept
Food has always been a central part of how my family connects, shares stories, and expresses care. This book documents the dishes passed down through generations, creating something that can continue to be shared with future family members. Beyond preserving recipes, the project also explores how food can be a powerful way to understand culture and identity.

Execution
The book combines personal storytelling, recipes, and visual design to create an intimate and meaningful experience. Each dish is presented not only as a recipe, but as a reflection of family memories, traditions, and cultural heritage.

Outcome
Created during a time when the COVID-19 pandemic saw a rise in prejudice towards Asian communities, this project became deeply personal. Poh Poh aims to celebrate Asian culture and encourage understanding by sharing a small window into my family’s life, traditions, and the love expressed through food.
